Baby Quiz

I am finally reading a book that my friend Sabre gave me about babies. I put off reading it for a few months because I thought it would be another book to make me feel guilty about what I was doing wrong for Cody. But I love it! Her philosophy is kind of if you do everything your baby wants, you're not respecting yourself and if you do everything you want, you're not respecting your baby. I took a quiz to see what type of baby Cody was and I was laughing because he fit his category. He's a 'spirited' baby. A=Angel Baby, B=Textbook baby, C=Touchy baby, D=Spirited baby, E=Grumpy baby. Here are some of the questions that fit Cody particularly well, which makes him sound wild, but overall he is so much fun! What kind of baby do you have/were you? (this is for the 0-8 mos. time period)

1. My baby
A. rarely cries
B. cries only when she's hungry, tired or overstimulated
C. cries for no apparent reason
D. cries very loudly, and if I don't attend to it, she quickly gets into a rage cry
E. cries a lot of the time

2. When it's time for him to go to sleep, my baby
A. lies peacefully in his crib and drifts off to sleep
B. generally falls asleep easily within twenty minutes
C. fusses a bit and seems to be drifting off, but then he keeps waking up
D. is very restless and often needs to be swaddled or held
E. cries a lot and seems to resent being put down

3. When she wakes up in the morning, my baby
A. rarely cries-she plays in her crib until I come in
B. coos and looks around
C. needs immediate attention or she starts crying
D. screams
E. whimpers

4. My baby smiles
A. at everything and everybody
B. when prompted
C. when prompted but sometimes starts to cry within minutes of smiling
D. a lot and is also very vocal, tending to make very loud baby noises
E. only under the right circumstances

5. When I change my baby's diaper, bathe him, or dress him
A. he always takes it in stride
B. he is okay if I do it slowly and let him know what I'm doing
C. is often cranky, as if he can't stand being naked
D. wriggles a lot and tries to pull everything off the changing table
E. he hates it-dressing is always a battle

6. My baby seems to
A. feel utterly safe in her own bed (crib)
B. prefer her bed most of the time
C. feel insecure in her bed
D. act feisty, like her bed is a prison
E. resent being put down into her bed

7. A comment that best describes my baby is that
A. you hardly know there's a baby in the house-he's good as gold
B. he's easy to handle, easy to predict
C. he's a very delicate little thing
D. I fear when he begins crawling, he's going to get into everything
E. he's an "old soul"-he acts like he's been here before

The Park

My friend Erica and I went to the park yesterday with Cody and Lilly, even though it was a little cool. I have a feeling we're going to be spending a lot of time there this summer, Cody loves it!!!! Thanks for the invite (and the pictures) Erica:)

Cody Favorites

Favorite Foods: Grapes, corn and creamed corn, PIZZA
Favorite things to do: Get in the Garbage (he has yogurt all over himself), get into drawers and cupboards, push Anything (laundry baskets, his walker, his toy barn, chairs), play soccer (I swing his legs at a ball and he laughs so hard), hold pens and pencils.

March!

March has flown by! I have gotten so bad about taking my camera anywhere lately, so I have no pictures of anything this month! The second week this month Ben went to the Caine Center and I went to Utah. Flying is getting to be a bigger challenge, kind of like church-I can't entertain or restrain my child long enough anymore and he won't just sleep.
This last week Ben went to Alabama for this year's SAVMA Symposium, a vet student conference. They go to a bunch of seminars and also have different events they compete in for fun. He got second in roping!
Me and Cody dyed eggs at the Barnes' for Easter while Ben was gone. They are so fun! I got Cody some markers that are white and only color on the paper. I thought they were the answer because he loves pens and pencils, but the markers take so long for the color to show up that he's not interested. Any ideas?

He got a big cut on his forehead this weekend from a nice sharp table. I think it's the age! Cody has been taking steps for quite a while now, but his primary mode of transportation is still crawling, and the reason is because he would rather run, or in the alternative, crawl, because it's so much faster.

Sound of Music

I turned on the Sound of Music the other day and Cody, who has never more than glanced at the TV, sat and watched it for 45 minutes! He does a little dance whenever the kids are singing. I've played it about 6 times since the first day. The songs are so catchy!

I finished the Peacegiver a little while ago and it is one of my favorite books ever! It is kind of a new way (to me) on how to apply the Atonement in any relationship.

Grandparent Post

I just realized that the last couple of posts haven't updated the grandparents on Cody, so I thought I would throw something in for them:) He loved eating with his cousins at the Purdy's while we were in Utah; they all shared food, spit and germs and had so much fun. He found some fascination with sitting in baskets at Grandma and Grandpa Crosland's house and has carried that over to all of our baskets too! This month's changes in him have been subtle-more dexterity, overall better coordination, better understanding-all subtle changes that I have really enjoyed seeing and are so exciting to me.
