I feel like Dana Point can easily be done in a day, and it was a fun day!
More if you go to the beach - but that was for the next day. Baby beach right off to the left of this ship at the institute has no waves and tons of paddle board rentals - we may have to come back and try it out!
We went to the Ocean Institute for a couple of hours.

The kids learned about purchases, pulleys, and how hard it is to pull up 100 lbs. without it,
and a bunch of other educational things like what they use kelp for (tons of things -like toothpaste!)
We also went to a visitor center at Doheny Beach. They had a little tide pool and a bunch of cool ocean creatures for the kids to see. Plus a butterfly garden with a butterfly that just came out of its cocoon.
Then we went to the Nature Interpretive Center - it has a trail on a cliff above the ocean.
This was my favorite part and the kids least favorite part. I'm doing my best to get them as much exercise as possible this summer!
